I make art exploring the relationship between nature and technology. Depending on the project I utilize and combine various media including photography, drawing, installation, and computers. I am particularly interested in interpreting landscapes by playing with the space between imagination and reality.
In January 2008 I made the Otherworlds installation while at the Vermont Studio Center. Walking into the space, the first thing you see are the projectors. You see the power cords, the metal stand, the beams of light. You hear the mechanized hum. By emphasizing the technology, I am showing you how I've made the piece. The rest of the room is empty, dark, and cold.
Staring at the blue planet on the far wall, you feel meditative, calm, magical, surprised, and wonderful. Sliding your hand in front of the beams, the piece becomes unexpectedly interactive and briefly allows you to change the world. |
